        Hi All

In the past I have posted images that are shared from a file sharing site in my case Mediafire, other friends use Dropbox or the Microsoft site Etc.

Links to Mediafire used to show up in my posts as an actual image not as a link..

Which button in the editor do I use to do this now? I tried tonight but it did not appear to work. I know you can use the album and post from there but I find that double handling. All my files are stored in the cloud.

        Regards
        John

From Mediafire click share and then more share options, copy the "html embed code" then in your message click the "embed media" icon which is the blue one next to youtube and paste the link in the box that comes up

Use the greenish button next to the camera.

Make sure you right click an image and choose 'copy image location' and get a URL link.

If your sharing site uses a Flash wrapper or redirection to their site to display the images this won't work as you MUST link directly through to the actual jpg file.

            Neil.

Neil that (image icon) does not work on mediafire for some reason. I have tried it using John's Mediafire images, just get the red cross in a box

It seems to be a flash based site, but right clicking does 'generate' a usable image URL.

That one done using right click, copy image URL and then using the green icon.

Please avoid using a remote site for pictures that will be valuable in the future as you will get fed up continually using the site to keep them alive. Most of these sites cut yo off if you don;t read the adverts every 3 months. That leaves threads with blank pictures.

It is also preferable to use a site that doesn't have geeky software which doesn't work with old browsers or requires an add-on, or requires all visitors to register.

In other words just put the pics on this site and we can all see them at least until you throw your toys out and demand that everything is removed (which in my view the moderators should never ever do)

Can't see any pics in the thread so far. Looks like my IT dept blocks Mediafire as a dodgy site.

Thats all very wel but if you post on half a dozen sites like me thats a lot of work to upload six times the amount of photos and each post would need to be edited to put the corret url in for that host. I'd rather spend the time in teh workshop.

This sites album software is also very limiting and slow which does not make it the best place to store stuff.

Thanks Jason and Neil for sorting this out.

I also post at a few places and Find the album inconvenient and slow.

Mediafire has been around for a very long time, I have had a paid account there for maybe 5 years and there has never been a problem. By Paying few dollars a month the files are never deleted and anyone who downloads one does not see advertisements. I have never lost a file.

Depending on your security settings when ever you download a file you are likely so see a warning message from your browser or operating system. most systems also check files on the fly as they arrive to your computer. Mediafire is a very early adaptor of what is now called cloud computing.

                      Regards
                      John

i have Bazyles problem – our corporate it polcy blocks various sites for various ills, includng as social media, downloads, ads, but it is very patchy…some media hosting is ok, some not, some will work today and not tomorow…all a hint to get back to work i suppose!
