Hi, I really need some advice please!

My dad has sadly departed and I have his treasured workshop to clear. There is a huge amount of stuff in it including a Myford lathe. I don’t know where to start!
He was a keen model engineer, amateur radio and electronics enthusiast.
Im realistic but any advice please so I can avoid being totally ripped off!
      Many thanks in advance!

Near High Wycombe if anyone is interested!

My sympathy for your loss ksw. Without the knowledge and experience about the average value of anything there, then yes it would be easy to get taken advantage of. At best you might get a couple of knowledgeable members here that are close to your location that might be willing to help assess what you have and how best to sell it off. It’s obviously going to take a lot of time and effort though.

The Myford lathe should sell easily, here is one on Ebay here

the milling machine is a Dore Westbury. There are 3 on ebay with asking price a lot more than I would be prepared to give DoreW

The belt sander might fetch a bit, but we can’t see the details. I’d advertise them on the classifieds on this forum and/or https://homeworkshop.org.uk/

Last resort is a dealer, but they have to make a profit and so will offer much less than going rate.

Unless you’re prepared to do a lot of sorting and multiple small ads/ebay listings the myriad tins of nuts bolts etc are pretty much worthless, as are many hand tools. There is a model engineering club in High Wycombe https://www.hwmec.co.uk/, they might help, but most model engineers are already well set up and have enough surplus valuable stuff.

Can’t comment on the radio/electronic stuff

I’m afraid I agree with Duncan.  However there are probably some items that should be associated with the lathe and the milling machine such as chucks of various sorts and machine vices for which it would be worth trying to find someone local to help you identify.

With a bit of luck someone local to High Wycombe will read this and come to your aid.

Good luck with your sad but onerous task.

Rod, I will see if I can find someone local who can help identify which bits go with what!
                                    Thanks for your advice 🙂
