These BS-85 band saws are possibly a bit smaller than your 5″ Warco but have a much larger motor (1kw vs 400w). They take a shorter blade than your Warco (1325 vs 1435) and weigh less (19kg vs 24 kg). Table might need some modifications and depends on the bandsaw being able/modified to swing 90 deg into a vertical position. The Stakesy’s table is sold by Stakesys.co.uk. What dB does your Warco run at using a dB phone app?

So I just measured it for you, holding my phone between the handle and motor I get approx 59db at the lowest speed and approx 69-70db at the highest speed. This is unloaded, not cutting anything.

Thanks – that really is very quiet indeed.  It is the small portable benchtop 5″ Warco at £450 rather than the larger 5″ Warco that comes on its own trolley cabinet at £860?   Are you happy with its ability to chew through material with ease and accuracy?

Yes, it’s the smaller 5″ one. I’ve been very happy with it. Other than the vice handle falling off I’ve had no problems. Even the standard carbon blade has been fine!

Very interesting thanks. If I can find a cheap one closer to the cost of the BS-85 I will endeavour to sell mine and go for the Warco then.

I would agree that the table material can be important depending on the material being cut. I have equipped my steel Warco table with a false SRBP top on which the work moves more easily and is less prone to scratching.

Incidentally and as has been pointed out elsewhere, it is remarkable how competent the Evolution blades are.

Interesting point. My wood band saw has a rather ineffectual-looking brush which touches the blade after it leaves  the work; I wonder if something similar would help with the Warco – mine is still giving good service after some decades of use.
