      Hi,

I need to secure my crossheads on 3 1/2 Lilla Loco to the piston shafts,The drawing calls for a 1/16 x 1/8 long cotter pin.

Does anyone know what this is?

I have googled and all it brings up is Split pins which obviously is no good,Does anyone think that they mean a split roll pin?

      Thanks

Bit puzzled about this and don't want to make an error at this stage and scrap the crossheads.

Think of it like a flat taper pin.

If you can get a sight of MEW 29, you will find a reference to cotters (and proportions) in Alan Jeeves' article on Keys & Keyways (page 17). hope this helps.

Here are some pics and drawings that may give you an idea of the sort of thing… albeit far larger than you need!

Now I'm back on the PC here is a section from a Fowler works drawing of the cotter arrangement that they use.

If I may also ask for some advice on this thread…….I am building a Gauge 1 2-6-2 Green Arrow and the plans show no means of securing the piston rod to the crosshead. The piston rod is 1/8" diameter stainless steel and the crosshead is proportionally small. I have considered loctiting the piston rod in once it is "set up". Does this make any sense or should I drill and pin.
