Here is the first in a group of tools that I hope you guys can help me identify.

It was collected in a box of the items from a garage sale.

It is a sort of razor blade shape but quite thick on the back comes with a small hinged lit tin. The tin is slightly shaped the same as the 'blade'.

It is a blade, in which case it was from a "Rolls Razor" for shaving. I think the script says that, so not too much of a mystery , and the case was for portability. I have seen them as a set of 7, one for each day of the week, and they came with a sharpening machine which was an oil stone on one side and leather strop on the other. The section is much the same as a cut-throat razor, but much (well a little bit) safer.

Looks like the spare blade of an early type of safety razor. The razor came in a box with an oilstone. The handle and blade holder are hinged to make sharpening easy. I have one made by Rolls Razor somewhere.

            Cash prizes I hope!

Doh! Speedy Builder is speedier than me.  Perhaps we could share the prize?

Hmmmmmm… It looks like a holder for the old ROLLS(not Royce) blades my dad used to use in his rolls razor.

If it's hall marked I pass.

Ok so you guys really are good!! I did think it might be razor blade but thought it might have something to do with early drafting or drawing.

Here's your next test. Almost looks like a 'nibbler' of some sort the metal protruding from the front has a notch but I can's even guess what the two L shaped guides/brackets are . . .

                img_1625.jpgYou guys are GOOD!! I

The L brackets are just to stop your hand sliding up the handles as you squeeze because the force needed can be quite high. I have a similar one .

Thanks Bazyle, what is it for?

Well mine is a nibbler. Can't see the top of yours to be sure though. Nowadays I use an electric drill attachment one.

Similar idea on the MONODEX cutter.

Mine has 'ergonomic' ribbed plastic handles.

Ok, sounds like you guys nailed this one as well, but tell me is a notcher and a nibbler the same? I have seen a few nibblers but this one looks like it would take a really small bite and I wondered if it might be for making some sort of small notches?

Some designs are better at going round corners than others but the names are not that specific.
