close up photos of the tins and sizes would be good for your advertising, you never know you may have some unobtainium in there!. There was a guy on here looking for 11ba bolts some time back.

It is interesting when these engineers leave us and I wonder what they would want.  We often hear that it is too darned expensive for youngsters to get into this hobby. Young engineering apprentices should not be spending precious cash on workshops, instead saving for house purchase marriage etc etc.

Do we as loved ones want cash for Dad’s beloved workshop, or would Dad have wanted to help give a youngster a leg up (via a local club perhaps).

With respect Bob, I agree to a certain degree however there is also another point to consider. Would dad prefer me to give everything away or for the funds we can get to go towards providing care for his widow? They were married 60 years. The invoice for carers is eye watering.
I have already donated a huge amount of art equipment to the local school, medical supplies to a care home and to people in the local community and food to the food bank.
I really didn’t need that comment. It wasn’t necessary or kind.

I’m surprised at people saying there’s a lot of stuff there. It all looks quite modest and restrained to me, just with a few things removed from their normal locations and cluttering up the work surfaces.

Me…I stopped counting when I acquired about my fiftieth tap wrench, my thirtieth blow torch, and my machine screw count went past 100,000. But then I am allowed to house my stuff in any room of the house I wish.

We should be considering ksw’s situation from his perspective and not what any of us might think. There’s a massive amount when your stuck with the job of clearing all that and you just don’t have the knowledge and experience to identify never mind set anything like a reasonable selling price for most of it. For many of us it would still be a great deal of work to go through all that. And I can imagine he’s feeling completely overwhelmed at where to even start.

I had to help my sister do about the same when her husband died, and it wasn’t a comfortable feeling identifying and putting an approximate price on his collection of tools. There was much less than ksw’s pictures show and only took a couple of days. But the whole time it felt like I was helping to sell off a large part of who he was and what was important to him. Ksw having to do that for his own father’s tool collection might be far more uncomfortable.

Actually, Pete, I’m currently in the same position with my own late father’s acquisitions, so I for one do understand. I’ve spent hundreds of hours producing photographic inventories of them so far.

It’s not an uncomfortable experience, just very time consuming. But I accept that if you want a decent price for anything you sometimes have to do a corresponding amount of work to get it even if you personally paid nothing for the items in question.
