I'm looking for some stubby drills, ideally something half decent like HSS cobalt M35.

I want something short to minimise the stickout from the chuck in my milling machine, as the more stickout, the less quill movement I end up with without moving the knee and screwing up my offsets. This is worse with bigger drill diameters obviously. It's possible to make holes with a milling cutter but in many cases where the hole is relatively long that isn't going to work.

I'm looking for diameters in the range 6-12mm or so without breaking the bank. I suppose I could get a set of standard length ones and cut off / resharpen them but I suspect that might require previously undiscovered levels of skill.

I use Drill Service; they do a good range in assorted materials, with next day delivery, free over £10 I think.

Drill Service also do LH stub drills, which have their uses, but sadly not LH slow helix stub drills. sad

Not really. The web gets thicker near the holding end of the drill bit, so they don't sharpen up so well with the resulting thicker point. Better to buy one of the stub sets suggested.
