        Hi Guys

Thought I'd try my luck out on this forum, is there anyone out there who can help me, I've got a hinge which is broken and I'm trying to get it repaired as I don't have the facilities to do it.

I would simply buy some new ones but unfortunately I can't seem to be able to locate a suitable one the internet, hence the need to get the old one repaired.

If you go to the website http://www.hafele.co.uk/shop/images/external/pages/023-49.pdf that is the application I want it for, an old Hi Fi stack system with a lift up glass lid, I don't expect it done for free so can anyone help me out.

        Cheers

        Clive

          Hi Clive,>>

Any chance of a photo or two of the damaged hinge so we can assess how to affect a repair, also where abouts in the world are you.

            hi clive,

a new hinge out of stainless or nickel silver could easily be silver soldered together. the old hinge can be repaired by silver soldering but will need replating afterwards as i expect it is nickel or chrome plated. ive got plenty of nickel silver and stainless if you want to PM me and am a dab hand at silver soldering. wouldnt want any payment.

            cheers,

            julian

              Hi Guys

Thank you both for your replies, first off I’m in Stafford, I hope the pictures that I’ve uploaded are ok.

The hinges are ordinary mild steel painted black nothing fancy like chrome plated, they are what came with the stack system when I bought it way back in 1983.

As you can see from the one picture there are two springs which can be tensioned up via the adjusting screw in order to prevent the glass lid from slamming down when in the open position.

It’s only the one hinge which has broken but I don’t know how far behind the second one will be before that meets the same fate given it’s age.

The two springs fit into a rectangular shaped plastic block which has two blind holes 10mm diameter x 5.5 mm deep for the springs to sit in, as you can see its broken across the corner.

The one face is slightly concave where it presses up against the 9 mm diameter shaft see the picture, I’m not sure if it’s worn like that or supposed to be like it, guess you guys would know better than me.

You will also see the 9mm diameter shaft has also broken I think it used to revolve around the steel pin which runs up the centre of it, again the shaft was made out of plastic guess that’s why it’s broken.

A bit difficult to explain but the head of the steel pin needs to clear the body of the hinge when in the closed position, take a look at the partly open and closed position pictures

Forgive the red lines being a bit wobbly I did them freehand using paintshop.

              Cheers

              Clive
