      Hi Folks
The screws arrive after some delay, which was odd because the next order from the same company arrived in two days!! I don’t get it finished but oh so close! belt to tension, plug to fit, and then start up, test and set the hydraulics and the stop cam up! With the fencing in the field finished we take the fine weather opportunity to clear up all the bits and pieces that formed the previous fence, and general clear a strip about 100 yards long and 12 wide!much log sawing and Westwood working, We all have some covid like virus at the moment and are definitely operating under par! It was fun, but exhausting!
Phil, sunny and hot, but rain today in East Yorkshire!

        Hi Folks

I get the Qualters and Smith saw running, and adjust the hydraulics, and almost get it right, but I have decided to strip the lift ram next week to check the settings as it sometimes doesnt cut quite through before it goes into lift mode! We finish the wire mesh around the trees to make the fence dog proof in both directions, and clear Damson wood! Friday I get my Honda mower running after some tinkering and clear my garden ready for fencing and finishing off at Ratten row! It’s only the work that is keeping us alive, as I always say to Keith! Long may it continue!

          Hi Folks
I get the hydraulic lift cylinder reset, and test the saw, and it works perfectly! I put the sides back on and its finished! Then onto the Frank steam cleaner, I get the motor running the right way and the pressure wash works, but it doesnt turn on the burner when its calling for heat, so either pressure or flow switch? At this point I am feeling like crap again so I go home and spend the rest of the week in bed after advertising steam cleaner as is! However I have decided to give it a couple more hours just to check the switches are operating and see if I can sort it, I do not like selling stuff that doesnt work 100%! Friday feeling much better I get a call from Keith about his computer, and attempt a fix, to no avail, and realise that I have forgotten most of my computer fault diagnosis knowledge through lack of use! Saturday morning and feeling rough again!

            Hi Folks
I am back!! feeling almost back to normal after a horrendous bout of what I am told from the symptoms is a new covid variant which is lasting up to 4 month! I had it for 5 weeks, and I am now feeling much better!
Work on the house is drawing to a close and I am going to get it up for rent this weekend, Keith and I cleared the garden, put the new fence up and ripped out the tree stump in this video, and also I did a day of antique repairs for my dealer mate! replumbed the waste on the dog bath which had detached itself and emptied all over the kennel floor. Ongoing work on the steam cleaneradvanced a tech level when I remembered there is a fuel level switch in the tank (although not on the wiring diagram!) which takes nearly a gallon of fuel before it switches on! We will get there!

              Hi Folks,
Been a bit preoccupied this week with getting my new tenant into the house and getting all the work finished! Our attempts with the ladder failed to get high enough to fit the chimney cowl, so we have passed that over to Harlands, our local builders and joiners as they have access platforms, and a Telehandler with a man bucket! I spent a morning going round the hardware shops and builders merchants trying to find one, no luck, and ended upat the woodburner shop at Foxholes who managed to fid one! So, some antique repairs , a cross vice free off and set up, and some general tinkering and waffling! Enjoy!

Hi Folks, The house project is coming to an end, new tenant is in (almost) the woodburner/central heating is working and she is getting organised with furniture, so my job there is almost over and I can return to the workshop with a clear head and concentrate on the job in hand! The only time I ever got lines at school it was ” I must concentrate on the job in hand”! Still having trouble with that! So, the chimney cowl goes on, and I get back on to the D type replica drive system and basically start again and make huge leaps forward! I turn up the shaft for the clutch bell and then rejig the drive mechanism! All in a days work tinkering here atrough but slow engineering!

                  Hi Folks,
The electrician turns up at the house to do the EICR test and we have a few C2’s!! correct within 28 days! so I fit a new consumer unit, find a fault and do some odd simple
fixes to the electrical installation. I get back on the D type transmission briefly, and it is beginning to come together! The 5C collet arrives to complete the next stage of the new shaft, so I might get back on to that next week, but the first priority is to get the new tenant happily seetled in to the house!

                    Hi Folks,
A short week due to getting daughters picked up from York, EICR’s at the cottage and getting my new (to me) car delivered. It arrived, the cottage passed the EICR and My daughter dissapeared to her boyfriends! In the meantime there was tidying up, and antique repairs, with more to come, maybe next week! I lit the boiler in the workshop for the first time this year, and all worked perfectly! Then it snowed!

                      Hi Folks,
I spent most of Monday getting my new car on the road, having parked the Outlander at Langtoft on Sunday, and got a lift back to Driffield! Tuesday and it was time to install the little fireplace woodburner for Lucy, the new occupier of my Ratten row house. Quite an involved job to do it properly, but the result was very pleasing, although it was a tight fit! The new motor is lovely apart from the eu de dog which permeates the rear cargo space, but I will attempt to get it in the workshopnext week and give it a clean! The only thing not working seems to be the passenger door mirror which does not fold in or adjust, so I suspect a fuse, more may be revealed later in the week!

                        Hi Folks,
A week of electrical problems, firstly a platform lift, and then on the Volvo! I am beginning to see why it was a grand under book price!! The lift proved to be a simple case of neglect! one flat battery, and one defective battery because the charger had failed. Moving on with the car, I find that the passenger side front and rear doors are both dead, no central locking, no electric windows or mirror folding and adjusting, and as usual suspect a complex problem, when it actually looks like it may be quite simple as some youtube research shows a problem inside the rubber duct in the door jamb is a common failure point, a tiewrap on the harness anchoring it to the plug fitted too tightly causes wiring failure! having said all that I don’t mind fixing a few electrical gremlins because overall it is a superb car, just like all the other Volvos I have had have been!

                          Hi Folks,
The Title of this weeks pathetic offeringis an old familial saying stemming from my Grandmother from the East End who used to say, instead of slip or fall, “don’t go a Gaby glide” a popular Dance craze when she was a lass in the 1920’s ( she was the Essex Black Bottom champion!) I think the frontispiece was tacked on by my brother Mike! Well my week “went a Gaby Glide” and I got about a day and a halfs work done, in five days. The fix on the Volvo was very satisfying, although it took two of us to get the door off and back on, as they are heavy!! love the way they come off though, 2 bolts and one Torx screw! the build quality of Volvos has always been impressive, but I think the wiring harness on these leaves a bit to be desired, although door link cables give problems on all marques! If I do any more next week I will film it, but it is unlikely as I have a guy coming to pressure clean the central heating system on Monday and the car goes in to Lawson and Tompkin on Wednesday for a service and general look over! I will endevour to enjoy Christmas, as I encourage you all to do! Bah Humbug!!

I have finished my annual hibernation and ventured back to the windswept wastes of Langtoft! Two little jobs, and back on the D type replica, workshop is lovely warm and tidy, so unless it snows, and as we come to the end of February thatis less likely, I will be posting videos again, weekly if I can get enough together, Hope you enjoy this weeks bag!

                              Hi Folks,
Spring is here, meteorologically speaking, and I hope to soon be back to a video every week! There is upcoming field work as well, to get a head start before it all starts to grow like mad! This week I dive into the D type replica engine fitting, and make good progress. I use the two slot method to get the bearing plate adjustable in two planes and also add a slot for chain tensioning, but I stall out when the only milling cutter I have of the right size turns out to be as blunt as my A*se!! Thursday is antique repairs and another wide variety of antique metalwork to fix and fettle ready for the upcoming antique fair season! Thanks for watching and see you all next week!

After a couple of weeks up and down in the dumps due to colds and covid, I improve with the weather! Lots of goodies from Temu arrive and I find out what is wrong with the signal injector that I couldnt get a peep out of!Still cold and occasionally wet, but spring is slowly returning after a relapse!

This fortnight I managed about two days in the field, and one in the workshop, so a very mixed bag of phone and camera footage about as chaotic as my fortnight turned out to be! The rest of my time was taken up with spring chores, family commitments, a day bird watching at our local nature reserve ( a 5-1/2 mile walk in the countryside around our local water works at Watton) etc etc! With Emily now back at uni for the forseeable, I am hoping to get more done! Fun with fires in the field, and a day of antique repairs with Andy, whats not to like? probably most of it!! LOL

                                              Hi Folks,
I finish the drive at my Langtoft house, and then get blagged by an old mate to “look at” a Fender guitar amp! I have some experience with guitar amps, mainly humping the bloody things about when I was roadyfor a few local bands, and being an electrical engineer, had to jump into the breech and fix them when they started playing up before or during a gigI However my forte is not electronics, and this one needs component level diagnostics, but thanks to some brilliant info on the net, circuit diagrams and signal paths, I got stuck in and faults appeared and will be dealt with! I am awaiting the three capacitors to be delivered, and when they arrive I will fit them, do another test, and see how much nearer to full sound we are. This amp appears to have been driven hard and put away wet!!

Thursday I finished the Fender Guitar amp, and it has gone back to its owner, and Friday I went to my mates house in the wilds of Easy Yorkshire to fix a three phase spindle moulder which had developed an annoying intermittent fault! Looks like the monsoon is almost over and its back to scorchio summer weather!
