KWIL I will expect a post tomorrow saying you found the old plate.wink 2

I've had quite a few glass shelves UVbonded to mirrors saves the hassle of drilling and looks a lot cleaner than brackets which you can always see the unfinished back of in the mirror.

& when they drop the soap in that shower do they have someone to pick it up, because there is no way they could bend down to pick it up in that small space teeth

They don't have that problem as that is only one of the guest shower rooms, theirs is a bit more spacious

Just noticed today quite a number of Goldfinches in the garden – regular visitors and welcome colour after the drabness of winter.

New this year though we have a lot of Jackdaws about – I don't remember ever seeing one before. Has anyone else seen any?

Goldfinches seem resident here as they are about all year long. Apart from all the usual visitors we are getting a few blackcaps and jays the last week or so.

Jackdaws – I remember seeing plenty when I still lived in South Wales. I seem to see very, very few these days.

                                  Plenty of rooks and crows.

Come to my home village on the Moray Firth near the Spey mouth if you want to see jackdaws. When I first came to the village over 20 years ago there were no magpies in the North of Scotland. Now there are many of the pests – to the detriment of songbirds.

Plenty of Jackdaws here … They are very intelligent birds.

The local ones are 'trained' to come for the food scraps which I put out on a metal tray on the workshop roof [or is the truth that they have trained me ?].

Well, we get perhaps half a dozen of those in the garden quite often. Rather have the throstles though.

Used to get humming birds in the garden in Vancouver. Very territorial, used to stand guard over the feeder and of course they could hover on the spot.

My bird feeder has been dominated by a flock of Goldfinches, up to 13, for the last few months. Almost no other bird has got a look in. The local pair of Chaffinches have to make do with the crumbs on the ground. The only bird the Goldfinches respected was a wintering male Blackcap but he has now gone back to east Europe. Mind you there seems to have been a shortage of Long Tailed Tits. I am sure they would have given the Goldfinches a run for their money.

This years RSPB survey came up with the facts, Sparrows are on the up, Long tailed Tits are up because of the mild winter. Thrushes are down some 40% I believe. Blackbirds stable. Starlings are on the red list now. No longer a pest specie.

Here in Kent on the North Downs, we get Jays and lots of Magpies. Green Finches and Gold Finches all winter. Lots of long Tailed Tits and Blue Tits and Great Tits and all three species of Wood Pecker. Lesser Spotted and Greater Spotted and the Green Wood Pecker. They have visited all winter feeding peanuts and the Green digging in the lawn. Chaffinches visit often and we have Dunnocks here too. We are close to a belt of protected woodland and get Tree Creepers occasionally.

Plagued by Wood Pigeons who are resident and eat everything put out so I crumble everything small now.

                                                  Gentlemen,

My wife and I have seen a plague of Jackdaws this spring, along with crows they can be seen swinging on the feeders, we always get Goldfinches and Longtailed tits as well, as my wife has restricted use of both her legs, arthritis, she spends a lot of time watching the birds in our garden. We will feed anything that wants food in our garden and that includes squirrel's, including a regular black one that come into the garden. Recently my wife watched one taking peanuts from a feeder and when we went to re fill it the perch's were missing, the little bugger had pulled them off to get bigger holes so I took the feeder apart and washed it all clean and then glued the perch's back on, the next morning I tested the feeder by trying to pull them off but couldn't so back out it went full of peanuts, when I got home from work my wife sent me out to look at the feeder, the little bugger had got them off again so tomorrow they are going to be pop rivetted on.

                                                  Martin P
