I fitted a Machine Mart single phase, 550 watts motor on my Super 7 about 25+ years ago. I mounted it on medium stiffness bonded rubber washers under each mounting bolt. I have just sold the lathe, and it continues with its new owner, giving good service. It is not as smooth as the Tesla VFD I have on my present Super 7, but that cost considerably more.
If anyone is interested, I am about to fit a 1100 watt servo motor obtained directly from China for £149 to a Lorch Type AVI-K toolroom lathe. Early indications look good, but only time will tell if it equals the Tesla VFD.
My little Super Adept performs well, and it is powered by my Mum’s old sewing machine motor, controlled by a Chinese control unit; total cost £3.41.
Good luck everyone
