Quite a few MEW authors use dropbox, and recently I have noticed a sudden surge of dropbox scam emails. This say you have ahd a file shared with you but (1) the email doesn't come from dropbox and (2) although the words dropbox are in the link to click it is buried in a longer address for a non-dropbox site.

I have no idea what's at the far end of the link and I shave no desire to find out!

ISo please watch out for this new one.

Why, don't they know how to add an attachment to an email?

The average MEW article together with drawings and high res images is often a lot larger than many e-mail hosts allow as maximum attachments.

I have a Dropbox account but I usually recommend WeTransfer to authors. Much simpler – no account required. Just drag and drop and huge data allowance for free.

Dropbox has all sorts of ways to fill your dropbox (like backing up deleted files) so once it's full it's almost impossible to get access to it.

I prefer wetransfer, but google drive and M$ onedrive both work OK.

WeTransfer's Terms & Conditions say they delete content after 7 days. Don't use it for backups, or on anyone who isn't on top of their Inbox!

Recently I have also had 2 scams pretending to be from Paypal regarding a payment I knew I hadn't made and today I received a scam pretending to be from HMRC saying I had a tax refund. In each case by looking at the actual email address behind the name – very easy to do on a Mac in the Mail app, not sure about Windows – it was fairly obvious that the email did not come from where it wanted you to think it did.

If in doubt on an email, like Neil intimated, check the address first off!

Indeed. No it's purely a means of transporting files – definitely not for storage.
