Did the above company make a model to fit an ML7?

I have been sent pictures of one for sale and it looks to fit an ML7.

I want to fit it to a Super 7 so my question is can I fit a ML7 feed screw and bracket to a Super 7 to accommodate it?

          Ken,

I assume you mean the power crossfeed mod.

Can't see why you can't do it, the feed screws are the same, BUT the S7 cross-slide is wider than the ML7, to accommodate that wide gib strip. So you will need an intermediate block between the S7 cross-slide and the ML7 bracket.

The S7 fixing holes are about 80mm apart, whereas the ML7 are more like 68mm, too narrow to drill and tap new holes in the end of the S7 cross-slide ('cos you run out of iron!) sad

But probably just enough room for the S7 and ML7 fixing holes to fit side by side in the intermediate block.

            Hi Robbo

            Thanks for your reply.

It started me thinking so having had "a hunt in the shed" and found a ML7 cross slide, comparing the two I can see the difference.

The Super 7 end bracket has been modified to take a roller bearing and a couple of thrust bearings for the screw..

So I could use the Super 7 bracket replace the bearings with new bearings to suit the ML 7 screw or make a sleeve to fit inside the bearing and use an after market dial to replace the Myford one and use ML 7 handle.

When it turn's up it might be made for a Super 7.

              Hi Ken,

That's the idea. I have an old ML7 cross slide hanging about that I was able to compare to my S7.

Having taken the end bracket off the S7 there might just be enough metal to take the ML7 bracket, but it would be a near thing.

I have had a hunt on line for information on the WMED power feed attachment, but can only find a couple of pictures and a cross section drawing on this site.

Has anybody got information on these they would be willing to share?

                  Ken,

Is this what you found? – **LINK**

Maybe you could PM Rod direct.

MEW issue 236 ( December 2015 ) had an article describing a similar power feed for the Myford Super7. Pages 21 to 25 inclusive, if you wanted to make your own.

                      Ken,

I think they made versions for the ML10 as well as the ML7 & S7. The machine specific bit seems to be the main shaft that I have coloured pink:

                      wmed.jpg

Fitting on the S7 is straight forward. The ball handle fits on a taper and is retained by the screw. Remove the ball handle. The device has a matching female taper which fits on the end of the cross slide screw in front of the dial and a male taper for the ball handle to mate with, the whole assembly being retained by a new longer screw. I am unfamiliar with the ML7 and do not know how they changed the design to fit.

                      HTH,

                      Rod

The one I have is for a ML7 but I can make it fit the Super 7.

I can see that it all "hangs' from the cross slide screw, and the motor and gear slide for in and out of gear.

The whole thing is stopped from rotating by a pin in the cross slide end bracket.

The pin is missing from the kit I have, could you give me some idea of what size this pin should be please

Thanks to you and everybody else who took the time and trouble to post

                        Ken

The pin is 3/16" diameter and the instructions call for the hole to be drilled 3/16" x 5/16" deep and the pin to be retained with Loctite.

                          Cheers,
