Hello all, I recently purchased a Moore and Wright combinatiion set No 992 in the box was "Y" shaped spring marked Moore and Wright Sheffield. As I could see no obvious application for this item I ncontacted Moore and Wright by email, they were very helpful, but concluded that the spring was not part of a combination set. I was rather surprised to see this same spring included in another set for sale on that auction site:-http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-MOORE-AND-WRIGHT-COMBINATION-SET-IN-ORIGINAL-WOODEN-BOX/151662105369?_trksid=p2060778.c100275.m3474&_trkparms=aid%3D.

Please can anyone give me a clue as to what his spring is for, in connection with a combination set. Thanks in advance for any information

      Paul

It is a part of the Moore & Wright combination set. It is in the January 1959 catalogue.
The part number is No 987. It fits onto the square to keep the square upright so that it is not easily knock over.
It was given away free with set nos. 990, 990P, 992 and 992p
