I am still astonished by this !

This afternoon, I connected my first-generation iPad to the Mac mini

iPad has the 30 pin connector and is frozen at iOS 5.1

Tahoe OS on the mini happily recognised the old iPad and listed its  content

This is a very simple way to recover the many PDFs that I have stored in the GoodReader App

Why the astonishment Michael. It should just work.

I have an old IBM ThinkPad tablet. I got it used in 2011 so its probably somewhat older than your iPad. It has been upgraded to Windows 10 (it won’t go any further). If I power it on, it connects to my network and I can read and write the files on it with no issue.

Astonished because the original iPad was never touted as having much by the way of USB connectivity.

Apple’s 30 pin docking connectors included USB.

              Yes, I know

Sorry for being old and easily-impressed …I was simply trying to share something that might be convenient for others with files stored on early iPads.

I remain impressed that a long-obsolete device, frozen on iOS 5.1 can be so easily accessed by the current OS

Well you have beaten me, I thought I was doing well, I’m running a macbook pro used every day for the last 14 years!
