Why are righthand threads the norm and who decided it?

Most people are right handed. A stoneage man holding a spear rotates it with four fingers pushing it round rather than anticlockwise driven by just the thumb and the fingers tending to slip off. Try it next time you are killing a mammoth.

The left is “sinister” ie associated with the dark side. And, as Bazyle suggests, the “Force” is stronger when applied right-handed.

10 out of ten, Bazyle, go to the top of the class – and a spot on answer ! The simple mechanics of the wrist and fingers on the right hand make it the easiest way for most of us !  Noel.
