I'm not sure if I should show this as poor old Neil may overdose, two Adepts in two days is too much for most people.

Neil if you feel you can dig into the clutch fund then I have the dealers detailsdevil

Today I shall make a start on a friend's AE telescope fork mount.
I'm fabricating a worm carrier (the wooden pattern in the pics) to take angular contact races for end float control of the worm.

I may also fit a heavy spring (or two) under the worm carrier to get a constant mesh.

The polar axis (not shown) is 3" diameter stainless; that should hold it wink

Today I continued with the AE fork mount worm carrier.
The milling is done and the bearing housings turned.
Just waiting for four stainless M8 cs screws to hold it together.
There will be collars on the worm shaft to keep the worm central and belleville washers to preload the angular contact bearings.
I set it up with a piece of paper between the carrier and the casting to give a bit of clearance, it can be shimmed later if required.

I paid a visit to Chronos in Dunstable today but made the mistake of taking my wallet with me! In truth I went to purchase a magnetic base for the dial gauges I inherited and came away with two; they are hidden in plain site in the workshop so I will get away with it until my wife sees the bank statementsurprise It was almost embarrasing as i am sure I was drooling within a couple of minutes of getting through the door, so much on display and all available to pick up and inspect with staff on hand for advice and help. I couldn't resist adding a 'Zeus' data book to my pile of goodies and could have spent so much more! The best/worst of it is that Chronos is only 20 miles away and any time soon I am going to need some steel stock.

Spent the last couple of days rebuilding one wall of the garage/workshop to repair damage caused by some wood-munching pesties which were highly active in this area over the last couple of years. Fortunately nothing structural, but a pain nevertheless having to move everything out of the way to get access. Bright side is that i can now rearrange things to provide better work space/work flow based on experience over the last 2 years with the current arrangement. Also an opportunity for a bit of a clear-out of accumulated 'stuff' which all had a good reason for being kept but never lived up to it.

I've been trying to get a peltier-powered cool box for my camera to work well. To start with I had to fit a bigger heatsink, but decided a needed a fan inside to increase circulation as I was just relying on a big copper cool plate..I'm still only getting about 6 degrees of cool in half an hour so some room for experiment so I tried moving the fan.

Of course I did all my adjustments by simply twisting fan wires together, and I shorted them out. I pulled off the fan but The short turned into a small blue-white self-sustaining arc that was working its way back along the small wires!

I then had the wits to disconnect the battery, then evacuate the smoke-filled workshop for a while.

                                Silly billy…

Recently I was given a contactor fitted with a 415 volt operating coil. I spent an hour or so removing turns of wire so that the contactor now operates on 240 volts. I reassemble the contactor had it running for a couple of hours on the bench, the coil just got warm to touch, so all ok for some future project. John

It seems that electrical matters are the subject of the moment. My day went to pot at around lunchtime when my computer gave up the ghost with a blank screen and a strong smell of expensively overheated electronics. crying 2

I spent the rest of the day resurrecting a very slow 17 year old laptop so that I could get on t'internetty, which rules our lives these days, and make this post.

Its in an article about communicating with Voyager on AAC (All About Circuits)

Spent the morning shovelling hardcore etc for an access ramp for the men's shed, short break for a mug of cold water and sandwich during which it rained then then rushed home to clean up and back for the fundraising opening BBQ for the shed. It stayed dry, almost no wind and all a success. We raised some money and were promised a council donation so we will be able to fit out he interior. Finished the day with a party by a family celebrating one year in the village attended by half the village. Promised another donation for the shed there.

A second one of my steplads passed his Class C LGV licence today

First time pass, he kept it very quiet!

I fitted a 'cold finger' to my Canon 450D, a second round of butchery after previously removing eth IR cut filter. Next? I'll probably have the mirror off it!

I'll fit a peltier, heatsink and fan on the copper tab, the cable is for a ring of nichrome to heat the front face of the remaining built in filter and keep it free of condensation.

Naturally the body of the camera has gone back on, with more minor 'reconfiguration'.
