Inappropriate adverts on the site

No matter what I do, I keep getting dating adds, adds for woman’s underwear, etc, etc, with the usual , appropriate, Amadeal adds. I have deleted all cookies associated with this web site. I have deleted ALL cookies on my PC ( That took a while.)

I have never googled these ‘things’ or chased porn on the web or bought underwear, etc, etc…

And it happens ONLY on this web site – on other forums I frequent there are as many non-sponsor related adds, but they are of appropriate nature, eg, on the wood working forums I frequent there are google sponsored adds related to wood work machine suppliers, wood sources, abrasives, etc – no girlie stuff..

How do I stop this rubbish. These add often appear directly in the sequence of posts as well, very irritating.

I put a similar posting a few weeks ago and Jason replied that these are targeted adverts based on one’s Google searches. The adverts I received had nothing to do with any Google searches I had made. I guess this is AI and the future.

Google has designed that “preference” system so we cannot beat it.

It rhubarb about “personalized” is largely a lie; just a pro-forma image. There is often an element of Google and its clients matching ads to individually, but clearly not on this site.

It’s getting worse, too, because Google and its Gentonox client have absolutely no interest in the forum except as an advertising hoarding; and the site’s host-managers probably can’t stand up to the parasites enough to allow only relevant advertising.

If you have an IPad, Adguard stops the ads being displayed. Just greyed out boxes.

I realise adverts are needed to pay for the site, but they should be relevant.

We have not been Mortons for some time but as it says below by having these ads Kelsey fund the content.

It may be worth clicking teh little blue triange and three dots in the top right of one of the ads and then you can see what they use personalise the content and how that can be adjusted.

Presumably Kelsey Media is still paid for the advertising space even if we block them from appearing on our screens?

Are some “ads” really scams that Google and Gentenox allow simply for the money? I mean those that do not name any product or service, or which pretend to be IQ tests and the like.

The thing is that you need to accept this as a factor of modern life. Learn to ignore it, rather than stressing about it.

With the TV we have a mute button than is used on every ad segment. If for other reasons I happen to see some accidently it goes in one ear and out the other. As you get older don’t you find dozens of things that irritate, or don’t seem ‘right’ -? The world changes & unfortunately our voices & opinions are rather insignificant.

Anyway, when AI rules the world things will be a whole lot different anyway.

One has to assume the adverts benefit their originators, or they wouldn’t keep paying for them?  But personally, and like pretty much everyone else, I hate adverts with a vengeance, and tire very quickly of them.  So seeing them repeatedly, makes me even less likely to take any notice of them.  And, why on earth do I repeatedly get adverts for something I’ve already bought?  In some cases for months afterwards.

Might be a case of the ad people having less personal data about you – if you don’t allow them to track then all they know is you are into ‘model engineering’. Probably and old man. The dating sites of older women will, of course, be targeting old men and will pay more for the add space than most other advertisers that don’t have any addtional info to go on. Give another advertiser reason to target you and the dating sites will probably lose the bidding war.

Mind you, I get ‘chair yoga’ which is probably same demographic.

btw the bidding is ‘real time’ and an automated part of google ads ecosystem.

Or, as has already been suggested, put an ad blocker extension to your browser.

I use Adblock Plus on Firefox (and Consent-O-Matic, which gets rid of a lot of the cookie question annoyance).

I don’t want to see any ads, but I do care just a little bit that it means I being a parasite. I would pay a (small) sub to get no ads, if that were possible.

I don’t see any ads. I think I followed some advice earlier in this thread or a similar one and now they don’t appear. Wish I could do the same for Facebook. Looking back at the first post that seemed to be objecting to some pictures of a pretty woman I think I want to turn the ads back on. 🙂

I also don’t see any ads here. But I’m always asking myself: why does someone in 2026 still use Google with all the resulting problems, when it is yust as easy to use Startpage  https://www.startpage.com

or Quant https://www.qwant.com/

or even DuckDuckGo https://duckduckgo.com
(which I don’t use, but it is popular in the US I believe).

I’m sure there are even more alternatives.
