WARNING: Phishing Attempt on MMEE Bookings?

I have just booked my Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition ticket.

As well as the ticket pdf, three e-posts arrived within two minutes of each other, so in line on the index:

SEETickets booking confirmation,

TicketPlan cancellation insurance confirmation,

A request from OneLink, purporting to be the brand of The Way Ahead Group, based in Dublin, to verify my e-mail address. This was so close to the legitimate posts it looked as part of them.

I have NOT complied. Instead I found and rang both SEE and Ticket Plan. Neither had heard of OneLink, nor of The Way Ahead Group and agreed with my suspision of a phishing attempt riding on these bookings.

 

There was a genuine “The Way Ahead Group”, based in Nottingham, not Dublin; later owned by SEETickets. The original TWAG telephone number and a quoted e-post address for a man I take to have been its proprietor, are no longer valid. Attempts to contact TWAG go either nowhere or to SEE.

The whole things seems a complete tangle of agencies and middle-men complicating the simple and of course siphoning off fees that should be going to Meridienne!

I will forward the apparent TWAG message to both the gov.uk and BT’s own fraud-reporting services… as indeed the helpful lady at SEE agreed I should! I also said I will post this warning here. I think the scammers have discovered the extinct TWAG / SEE link.

Thanks Nigel for advising the forum of this.

We are in contact with our booking agent SEE TICKETS to see what can be actioned from their systems but please do be aware and extra cautious in the meantime until a resolution is found.

Tickets will remain on sale from now and throughout the exhibition and will also be available on the day from the ticket office.

Might be an idea for the mods to pin this at the top of the latest replies to keep as many as possible aware ?  At leat until the date of the exhibition or the matter is resolved
