So I went a bit giddy today at the scrappy (only went for a bit of aluminium).

Even if I never use this stuff, I still had a good time foraging.

£35 though. Might go every week. laugh

      What are your thoughts?

If you have a vertical and horizontal mill they will fit it’s not a bad haul. Are they all sharp?

            What a haul!

Whatever you do, don't try to use the large end-mills by holding them in a lathe chuck. Cutters that size are nasty, horrible, malevolent things that will try to remove parts of your lathe, job and anatomy with distressing results unless they are properly held. You will need a proper collet chuck and a big milling machine to use them.

            Don't ask me how I know…

Yes, I have a collet chuck and a mid-sized floor standing milling machine.

No plans to put any of the cutters in the lathe.

I don't have a horizontal milling machine, but I do have an R8 arbor that takes them.

Not sure if using the larger milling cutters as slitting saws is such a good idea though.

                Definitely a good buy.

Lucky man to have a scrap source that gets that kind of stuff in and lets it out again.

I think metal is metal to them TBH.

Last time I visited they sold me 3kg of barely used carbide inserts.

Shame not many of them fit my tooling, but it's the thought that counts.

                    I'll dig out a picture.

It's all too big for the holders I have (and I have some pretty big holders)!

You can always silver solder the tips onto a bit of steel bar, when they are blunt or ground beyond use a quick blast with the propane torch and you can put a new one on.

It's something I would consider if I didn't already have more carbide than I know what to do with. My lathe came with a massive plastic box of the stuff.
