And what's even more amazing people are bidding on them. surprise

There are only two rules for buying cutting tools:

          1) Never buy cheap cutting tools

          2) See rule 1

          Regards,

          Andrew

I still don't think they are quite as bad as the ad for a short length of 6" copper tube for well over a million quid in the for sale ads on this site! I wonder if the price includes VAT?

Interesting feedback though on past sales and also current sales.

Wonder if he can even use a lathe ?

Who buys two quick change toolposts and at leat 3 sets of carbide tools then sells them ?

Nice reference book for a tenner, Cromwell sell them for £3.00

Thanks for the warning … I think I bought a box of them at full retail price and have had great difficulty making them work .. last attempt was trying to clean up a 'muck-metal' wheel into which the tool dug

Ha ha these were some of the first tools I bought !! As i was a newbie didn't cotton on that my difficulties were to do with their quality linked to my hamfistedness

Soon realised what I had bought after trying to find replacement tips on the web, ebay and finally the Harrogate show without success. I had obviously bought a one off batch of unique size

The tips break so easily. The parting tool was the most useless but I found that Warco sold replacement tips that fitted but they didn't last long either.

I still use them for roughing and the boring bars for facing (have them set up in a QCTP holder).

                        Caveat emptor, especially newbies

                        cheeky

I could never understand why people use indexable lathe tools. IMHO you get a far better finish grinding your own using HSS blanks practice makes perfect as they say. I suppose I can see why they are used in Industry time is money but not for the home workshop

                            Martin,

I'm interested in the sort of finishes you get with HSS tooling; what sort of Ra numbers would you expect to get on, say, EN1A and 303 stainless?

                            Regards,

                            Andrew

with a finely honed tool and the machine in good working order I would say between 0.8 – 1.6um Best Wishes Martin

Martin: Thanks for the numbers; looks like I've got a bit more experimentation to do. I get measured results from about 1µm to 2.4µm Ra, depending upon material. I wonder if I'm feeding too fast? I normally use 4 thou/rev for finish passes, what would you recommend?

                                Regards,

                                Andrew
