Does anyone happen to know where in the UK (apart from here) I can get a POL female to 3/8" BSP female gas fitting, preferably at a more sensible price than the one in the link?

I think the non-POL female thread in that is 21.8mm left hand, so not what he wants.

So, DC31K, in addition to the POL female x 1/2" BSP female adaptor in your link I'd need a 1/2" BSP male (presumably RH) x 3/8" BSP female LH adaptor.

Any idea where one can be obtained?

I do not know. In neither your original post nor in the item to which you linked is there any mention of a left-hand BSP requirement.

We might be able to infer that the notches in the LS Engineers one denotes the LH feature of the POL thread, but if you are now saying the BSP thread needs to be LH, it is back to square one.

That is 50% more expensive than the one he considers to have a non-sensible price.

What it does do is to provide the Sievert part number, 720740. I believe CuP alloys are a Sievert dealer.

I provded the part number and that is how I found the Cromwell one when searching, there are a few more about in mainland Europe but post etc will likely take them up to a similar price so depends on how much Bill needs the adaptor.

Yes, the one at Cromwell is even pricier than the one at L&S, but at least it's in stock.

My apologies for not being more explicit. I assumed when I said propane tank in the title it would be apparent that the 3/8” thread as well as the POL would necessarily be left hand.

The POLx3/8 having a Sievert part number is useful for further searches, so thanks to both of you for flagging that.

If I decide not to stump up for the Cromwell item, and can’t find it at a modest price elsewhere I may resign myself to continuing to use the particular torch it’s for with Bernzomatic style cylinders rather than Calor propane cylinders as well.

I only have a woodturning lathe at present, and I don't have the necessary taps, or the brass in a big enough diameter. Would it be straightforward cutting an internal POL thread on any mini lathe?

I suspect that making one would result in a non-standard part. Use of a non-standard un-certified part in a pressurised gas system would probably render any insurance policy useless if it came to light. A search on the internet will now be able to pull up these posts and give the insurance company grounds to reject any claim. It is also probably illegal in some places to use an uncertified part. This is based on what I had to be wary of when I was working and often identifying replacement parts for some old kit. Often a new replacement of the whole system was the only viable solution.

I'm inclined to agree with you, Martin. My reply was primarily intended to elicit an answer from vintage engineer on how doable a single-point-cut internal POL thread would be on a basic mini-lathe.

According to the Cromwell link it is 38" BSP, That's one hell of a big pipe! Are you offering to attach your cylinder to the UK North Sea gas main to solve our energy problems?
