Does anyone know where I can get drawings of Locomotion No 1 ? I know they are available from Reeves, but they have refused to supply them to me since I had an issue with them a few years ago. Strange way to run a business. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob, get a friend to order you a set from Reeves. But Maxitrak have a few at the moment.

        Regards Nick.

Those are two different designs as the Locomotion ( no number 1) that Reeves do is by David Piddington not the Greenly No1 that Maxitrak sell.

There is also a 5″ one from Ateier https://www.ateliermb.ch/shops/gussteile/ch/contents/de/d12.html

Although if it is the No1 he wants then Reeves may have done him a favour by not selling him the Piddington design instead of Greenley’s that he actually wants.

Just a vague memory from years ago when a club member was building the Piddington one, among the many problems was one of the boiler tubes was specified at a thinner gauge than it should have been and was prone to failure under pressure test. Might have remembered wrongly but worth checking out, he was a very experienced builder and it was the one he never completed, very uncomplimentary about the design.

The definitive book is “Locomotion No1” by Michael Bailey.
What scale are you going for? Which version?

used the drawing from the book to make his G1 version in time for the 200th anniversary seen here running with probably a more correct number of passengers than some of the contemporary accounts. All 3D printed.

Or perhaps you prefer this prototype – no you don’t need new glasses it really was like this ..

Thanks chaps for your replies. Unfortunately I did not receive any notification emails about your answers – I don’t know why. But that is all useful information you have suggested, and I will have a go at the Maxitrak version. I did see that earlier, but was put off by the fact that the drawing on their website seemed to be just a schematic. But I’ll have a go.

Well, I decided to get the Maxitrak drawings. Pleasantly surprised to receive them by return of post. They are very complicated and way above my skill level to make a working steam model. Lots of silver soldering and riveting, but I will try to get it to run on air. The key dimensions are all there, but there are many others missing. Wish me luck.
