Has the air of being some sort of science / metrology lab kit rather than machine tool. If its made from brass / yellow metal its almost certainly ex lab kit.

I would agree with Clive, it might have been part of an optical comparitor, but I didn't see any scales next to the handles.

              Thanks

yes makes sense as only has a small grub screw on bracket to secure to some sort of table and I doubt could take any sort of force on it .

              Thanks 😀

The leadscrew looks too substantial, and rather coarsely pitched, for ‘instrumentation’

Sorry, I don’t know what it is … but I can think of many things that it probably isn’t !!

Sure to come-in useful one day though yes

What is the thread on the top? – if 1/4 Whit it could be some form of adjustable camera mount

Could be part of some sort of sighting or aligning mechanism for weapons.

                      Thinking the same.

Same thoughts, possibly mortar sighting – elevating & traversing but don't see any scales.

That was my first thought. My father was a keen radio amateur, and in the early 50's he was advising a friend of his who dealt in ex WD equipment. It was a boys delight to look his yard, from memory most of it was of high quality, and probably over engineered.

If it is, there's a pretty limited range of movement, so I'd guess it's for (relatively) fine adjustment.

I think going to have to put it in the MAYBE USEFUL draw 😉
