Are there any plans/instructions for a simple template type copying attachment for a lathe, preferably one that will make a reduced copy of the shape on the template?

          Brian,

You might find something suitable if you search for fusee making.

If just a one-off then I think it was tom lipton (oxtoolco) on youtube who demonstrated following a simple flat profile held in the tailstock with a pointer attached to the toolpost and manually followed. Probably one of hs 'baby bullet' vids but a quick look and I didn't find it

Or you can make something like a taper turning attachment but instead of the straight guideway for a taper, you use a template with a follower.
