        Hi,

I have mk1, and I like to know if it is possible to replace the mk1 clutch with a mk 2 clutch?

And, I like to know if it is possible to mount a quick change gearbox ?

I've replaced the clutch on my Mk1 with a Mk2, I bought a complete clutch assembly off eBay and it mounted straight on to the existing 'Pivot Shaft', I had to remove and refit the 'Twin Vee Pulley' so the shaft could go through the 'Motor Drive Belt Guard Backplate', that was the hardest part, the only actual modification required was to the 'Headstock Belt Guard', this had to have the cut outs which allow the clutch to pivot increased, this was done easily with hacksaw and file. I was told a Mk2 'Headstock Belt Guard' won't fit a Mk1.

              Anders,

My Mk1 has been fitted with a gearbox, just the usual procedure re leadscrew etc.

Also replaced the old clutch with a Mk2, straightforward job if the complete assembly is used, the parts of the Mk1 and Mk2 are not interchangeable.

As John says, the belt guard needs modification, I chose to "lift" mine by using blocks under the mountings, and reversing the spring clips, This just avoids extending the cutouts at the side. A hole was needed in the drive belt cover to accommodate the end of the clutch shaft.

Sorry, I'd forgotten about that mod, I made the hole and fitted a cover and spacer over it.

And I didn't mention that raising the cover mountings means a longer locking plunger (which holds the cover open) needs to be made.

But these are incidentals which crop up along the way!

What was most pleasing (as well as having a clutch that worked smoothly and without rattling) was to find that by reversing the closing clips on the sides of the cover they would still work with the higher cover mountings, with the minimum of work.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the great advice, I think I will look around for a mk2 assembly yes
