Thanks Roger, It's not that complicated really. I'm sure it will work – it's just that the machining has to be spot on and I'm not sure that I've managed to get that right! Time will tell.

On the remote possibility that SOMEONE out there has not encountered the classic palindrome :-

        Napoleon's comment :

        Anyone know any more?

I have just booked my wedding at Papplewick Pumping Station.

So I suppose I should make the most of my remaining bachelor days smile p

Arguably what I didn't do today, as I've been indulging in the worst kind of armchair / chequebook engineering.

So I modelled the pullstuds in Onshape at the end of last year and got our factory in China to farm them out to a local machine shop. On my last visit in March they were ready, complete with a comprehensive incoming inspection report, hardened and ready to go. It's a blatant bit of chequebook engineering admittedly but at £3 each, I'm happy to pay for someone else to crank them out so I don't have to. To be fair, my armchair workshop doesn't have the facilities…

Fine looking pull studs there! Nothing can beat chequebook engineering – it's a real time saver. And time is by far the most important factor for those of us that are still working full time.

Just completed the first (partial) furniture move from our temporary (2 year +!!) rented place back to the old, almost complete rebuild. The first move of a great many, in 60 plus adult years, when I haven't done the 'humping and dumping' myself!frown At 80, with nadgered knee and the usual back problems, it's not an option anymore. Hopefully the swarf manufactory will not be far behind.

Only moved three times in my life, definitely not something I enjoyed doing.

I put up some new high frequency fluorescent lights in my basement workshop this morning , replacing the cheaper £ 20.00 , 40 watt, units I put up last year. the cheaper units were switch start which buzzed all day long and drove me mad, the new lights have daylight colour tubes as well and look great. Cost wise £ 55.00 per unit , 2 x 55 watt tubes, loads more lights, no buzz, from screwfix.

ChrisH- I've emptied cess pits and septic tanks by hand, changed a gearbox at the bottom of a pit in a grain store, this fan def. the worst. Neil, I thought boiling in caustic might be a bit harsh on the motor, soaking in soapy hot and see if worth repairing. A couple of new houses being built near me will have macerators. I asked the site agent what happens in a power cut, all he could think of was to use a field.

Just for interest and some sort of topic related– The old oil etc. reminded me very much of old Castrol R, except it didn't smell as nice. Could not shift it, but a soak in very hot water and washing powder ( washing machine stuff ) and it is like new.

I look forward to reading about this as this week I have signed the papers on a new house about 3/4 of a mile away from where I am now.

There is room there to get a 20 x 12 workshop and the idea is to get away from living on the job and having space for a few machines that I can play with. It's not a big area but I will still be keeping The Bodgers Lodge ™ so no loss of larger machines. Just a couple of lathes and mills for the Delectable Debs ™ and myself to play with.

Think we can just about squeeze in Debs Bantam, her KX3 CNC mill and CNC lathe plus my Chinese 14" x 36" and a SX4 manual mill and the laser cutter.

First job is to dig out and get a heated slab in for the workshop to stand on and be nice and toasty in the winter months. I'm quite looking forward to having a blank canvas and not being rushed to move in which is what normally happens.
