I am working on a copy of a 5″ gauge Torquay Manor to the Martin Evans design in Model Engineer from May 1972 to October 1973.
I have a frame started by a previous builder contemporary to the original articles, along with a tender frame and a bunch of stretchers by myself, and several buckets of castings contemporary to the original articles. Basically I bought a project that was started when the articles originally came out, and have done a little bit myself since then.
Recently I had some free time, and have been modeling parts in SolidWorks so I can develop .dxf’s to send to the laser cutters, as well as to understand how parts go together to make the model.
I have a question about the bogie I hope someone can answer. Looking at the bogie assembly drawing from Model Engineer magazine (and pages 3&4 from the plan set) there appear to be angled straps going from the Bogie Top Bar Frame to the Bottom Bar frames where the Guard Irons are attached, as well as an angled frame going from one lower frame, to the cross part of the top frame, and then back down to the other bottom frame, attached in front of the forward most bogie horn cheeks. These parts do not appear in the detail drawings in either the build series or the separate drawing sheets as far as I can tell.
As I don’t have access to either the original locomotives or anyone else’s completed Manor, am I imagining these parts or are the intended to be in the assembly, but overlooked in the detail drawings?
