      The protecting tube was undamaged

I have had other things delivered by Parcelforce in the past which have arrived damaged.

Since, several years ago, Parcelforce put a "to be signed for" box in my dustbin on the day the bins were emptied, I have had little faith in them.

The box contained several hundred pounds-worth of computer equipment (a 20Mb hard drive – the largest available then!). It took three years before I received an apology from Parcelforce – and that was all I ever received!

I now choose to have things delivered by Royal Mail Letterpost and try to avoid businesses that deliver by Parcelforce or Courier.

I ordered a yard length of #10 – 32 studding from the only United Kingdom supplier that I could find.

Is studding ever straight? Most of the small diameter studding I've bought has been slightly curved. I guess it doesn't matter for most purposes because a little tension at the ends pulls it straight.

Would a metre of M5 studding do? It's close to #10-32 and common as muck in the UK: B&Q & the other DIY stores all sell it I think. In normal times I'd suggest visiting a store and picking out the straightest length in stock, but COVID precautions might make that difficult. ( Last time I went shopping it was tight discipline, 2 metres apart, one way system, and touch it you bought it. Should be more relaxed now, you might just need a mask. )

Another possibility if the thread doesn't matter as much as straightness is the wide range of precision lead-screws now available for 3D printers: all metric I believe, so might not suit.

If the protecting tube was undamaged, how could it be Parcelforces's fault?? Must have been bent before placing in tube.!!

          Really unfair to blame Parcelforce.

I ordered a yard length of #10 – 32 studding from the only United Kingdom supplier that I could find.

It came wrapped in a layer of bubblewrap in a 3" diameter tube.

            It was bent.

If it was in bubble wrap inside a 75mm tube and a metre long, it can't have been that bent! If Parcelforce managed to bend it without damaging the tube, then they must have had a touch of the Yuri Geller going on!

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

The studding must have been bent when Parcelforce people handled the tube.

It wasn't very bent but it WAS bent.

If the studding had been wrapped in sufficient bubble wrap to stop it moving it the tube it might NOT have been bent due to rough handling. But there was insufficient wrapping the first time and no wrapping or padding on the second attempt.

I have no way of knowing if the studding was bent when it left the supplier but, going by the damaged condition in which other items delivered by Parcelforce arrived here, the damage was caused by Parcelforce.

I bought #10-32 studding because that's the thread on my Taig lathe. Although a M5 nut will fit on a #10 bolt, it doesn't work the other way round.

If I had realised the problems that I would have buying #10 threaded items, I would have changed everything to M5 when I bought the lathe and saved a great deal of expense and stress

With best wishes and thanks again.

The studding must have been bent when Parcelforce people handled the tube.

Then it would show in the external condition of the package. (You can't bend a rod through the package without leaving evidence on the outside unless the package is extremely resilient – in which case the package is still at fault.)

It isn't reasonable (and certainly not cost effective) to expect delivery services to handle everyday shipments individually with kid-gloves. To cover their own rear-ends, they have standards available to companies stating worse case delivery environments (drops, vibration etc) and what those shippers should allow for in their packaging and packing method.

Most companies have never heard of the regulations let alone read them or received any training.

There would NOT have been a problem if all the space between the studding and the tube had been filled with Bubblewrap on both occasions.

                  But it wasn't.

The company that sent the studding have lost me as a customer for ever .

As for Parcelforce, I will never knowingly buy something by mail order if the seller advises that it will be delivered by Parcelforce (known in some areas as "ParcelfArce&quot.

Your view may differ – and I respect that.

This vemiculite tile arrived yesterday posted in a Jiffy Bag with no additional protection provided whatsoever – no wonder it arrived in two pieces! Could had done with one of those outsize packages hightlighted in this post.

                            Royal Mail Letterpost or Parcelforce?

I do hope you have reported the broken tileto the supplier.
