Hi everyone, I am thinking of buying an Emco FB2 clone and wondering how much they weigh and if they can be transported laying down? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I brought my first Taiwanese FB2 clone home in the car in two parts, with the head/column assembly layed down on a tarpaulin to catch any oil. IIRC nothing leaked – I had the side of the head opposite the quill feed shaft facing downward, which puts the gearbox filler/breather plug at the top. Did the same with the separate head/column assembly that was mated with a base from a different supplier to make my current machine – again, no problems.

Again IIRC the combined weight of the two sections is around 120kg. At the time I was able to carry each section on my own, but I'm not sure I could do so now. A willing assistant would be advantageous. The base is heavier than the head/column assembly (which just lifts out of the base when the clamp screws are slackened). The head/column is a bit awkward to get hold of, as the elevation screw sticks out of one corner & plenty of angular bits to dig in to you.
