Thanks to the several folks who have helped me out with this.

I received a claim that an article in the EiM was plagiarised in MEW, however, I am happy the only similarity between the two was the basic principle of the device involved. Also the basic device in question has long been available commercially (e.g. from Hardinge), so neither author has any claim to originality.
