      Hi All,

Here is a small engine that was in with yesterdays auction lots; any info much appreciated.

115mm tall not inc the brass bit at the top and cylinder head is 36.5mm diameter widest. Crankcase is aluminium.

No idea what the brass bit is for?

Looks like (not is) a Sparey 5cc – I'd say the brass serves no purpose unless its a jury rigged compression screw?

My best guess is an unfinished compression adjustor, if this is a diesel engine. I used to have a few model diesel engines and you had to lower the compression to get them started or at least hot and then gradiually increase the compression. Do you have any other pics?

                Hi Martin,

The diameter of the cooling muff is exactley Sparey 5cc Diesel. The crankcase is someones version of machining from solid , in place of a casting. I am curious about the brass part where a compression screw should be. Have you investigated further?

                Keith.

                    Hi All,

The larger diameter part of the brass section seems to be in two pieces, will have a go with some soft jaw pliers when I get out to the shop late on.

Here are some more pics as requested:

Definately a version of the Sparey 5cc Diesel. The cooling muff needs turning 90 degrees.

                      Keith.

Although the shape of the crankcase suggests it may have been bolted down to something flat like a tether car chassis in which case the slots in the head go the right waywink 2

I think you are spot on with that suggestion Jason. The chunky crankcase will add to the weight on the driven wheel.

                          Keith.
