      am needing to trace a boiler rc922 , I am Australian and have no idea how the uk system works , it was said by the po it was built by a well known copper smith , I may have heard of one by the name of chalmers , I,m wondering would that be a ron ? trying to obtain a duplicate cert , many thanks steve

          Hi Steve,

          RC stands for Reg Chambers, an ex-commercial boiler maker in the UK. I have one of his boilers in my 3.5" gauge Juliet.

          I'm not sure if he's still about, maybe someone else on here would know?

            Reg Chambers died some years ago.

            I think most boiler inspectors would take a view on this as in the UK Reg Chambers was highly regarded. A few pics of the boiler might help to dispel any doubt.

            I hope this is of some help. I knew Reg from the mid 1990s, and he built a Super Simplex boiler for a new club loco. I redesigned the Martin Evans boiler and Reg built it accordingly and 20 years later the boiler is as good as when made by Reg.

              hi Julian , many thanks for responding would u be able to advise the 922 would he have 922 boilers or does it refer to a date , or mabey the 2nd one for 1992 ?

                Hello Steve,

                I have just found your post as I am also trying to find info (build date??) for my own boiler. It's stamped on the backhead bottom right, with RC766, so I assume that it's a younger boiler than yours. I would assume that it's the build number and not the date and number. If I find out more, I'll let you know.

                  Reg Chambers' boiler number system seems a mystery he has taken with him unto eternity.

                  For I now own the loco holding the last boiler he built, and its certificate identifies it as RC180, built in 2000. That number suggests no date connection, and I would be very surprised if he built 180 boilers over the years, let alone 766!

                  The loco is a 7.25" g. version of LBSC's Juliet, originally built as a club project – Reg was a member of the society.
