This link http://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance will be of help to many older model engineers who have a partner who pays no income tax. My wife applied and within a week we received a nice cheque from HMRC and I will benefit from a higher personal allowance for the rest of the tax year and for future tax years.

It is an entitlement to those who are eligible so don't be shy!

I saw that on the BBC news webpage by accident. We applied and within 2 weeks we had a letter saying I had paid too much tax. I then got a refund check for £431. Nice

Just found it again on the beeb http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-41365084
