Since Myford stuff goes for a premium you might be able to sell it and get the right one, even swap it with someone who couldn't get a Myford one and made do with a new style one.

You could mount it on a plate using countersunk screws up from underneath through the existing holes and clamp it down with holes in each corner. This style of lengthways slots is quite versatile in mounting position and possibly better than the standard cross ways ones.

That's what I've done with my fixed slide. Two holes at right angles to the original pair – makes the slide more versatile when using it to hold a milling spindle.

Hallo Jon – well anyone building 2.5" engines gets my support – even though Bazle has already suggested my solution.

I purchased a Chinese vertical slide (which is heavier built than the Myford version) for my Super 7 – so a reversal of your problem. But the solution is still the same in my view – a 1/2" adaptor plate to match the holes/slots in the lathe to those on the slide. Mine has developed other holes over the years as various other bits (that don't easily clamp to the cross-slide) have appeared – vices, boring supports/steadies, angle plates etc – so it's a useful thing to have anyway.
