Just a heads up, Arc are doing a set of drills 1-6mm for near enough £40 posted, split point for the larger than 3mm. I’ve bought a set. No connection other than a satisfied customer.

Not yet, I only ordered them yesterday, they do look to be good value.

This far, I’ve not been disappointed with anything from Arc.

Back in 1964, I was 'given' a full set of Dormer drills, Fraction, number and letter. These have been used extensively over the last 66 years, sharpened by hand and I still have over 80% of the sets left. Buy quality and they will last, buy cheap and take your chances.

I have found that with some small sizes of split point drills they can drill oversize holes in some materials, I found this out the hard way after drilling some 2.9mm holes to then ream to a 3mm H7 hole. The reamer didn't remove any material when used as the pre-drilled holes were bigger than the reamer diameter, a 3,1mm Dormer drill blank was a good sliding fit in the drilled hole.

The lesson I learnt here was to always confirm the drilled diameter on some scrap same type material before possibly spoiling the part.

Although I don't have the set mentioned I do have a few of the individual drill bits and while not at the same level as say an A002 Dormer they are quite reasonable and a lot better than bits in some sets I have bought from the ME trade. With a similar sized set of Dormers selling at around £90 after heavy discount the ARC set would be a good mid range choice. I used one this weekend with no worries about risking a part that will have the best part of 5hrs work in it when complete.

I do have a set or Dormers and similar quality drills up to 13mm, but I don’t use the good drills for jobs that don’t call for them.
