I have aquired a Greyson 3 1/2 Lathe which I am restoring. It had been dismanteled by the previous owner. I have a problem with the tailstock it is in two parts bottem and top there 3 holes one tapped on the top half at the front with a left hand thread wich I asume is to offset the tophalf one hole oppisite in the rear with no thread and one hole in the handle end with no thread and countersunk hole in the bottem of top half threaded. The bits that fit these holes are missing.Can any one advise me what parts are missing.

I can't help you directly, but others might if you put some pictures on the post so that they can see for themselves, your description is confusing. They were made in fair numbers so someone should know.

Hi John

Another place worth looking is the www. lathes.co.uk website run by Tony Griffiths. There is a lot of info on there about Greyson lathes as well as the variants that were sold rebadged – Randa for example. Some of the pictures of the various models might help with the overall re-assembly as well as your specific question.

Hello John – Sorry cannot help with your question but would like to tell you that I acquired a 3.5" Grayson many years ago and because I had access to a range of machine tools at the time was able to carry out a full re-condition. End result was a Grayson that was probably more accurate than when it was new. I found it to be a great little lathe and can still hear the slap of the leather drive belt from the wall mounted lay shaft.

Sadly it had to go (divorce). For the life of me and after some 30 odd years, I cannot remember what the tailstock looked like but I wish you well with the refurb., I'm sure you will not be disappointed with your "new" lathe.

i have the same lathe and it is in pieces on the floor of my shed so if the need any pictures please let me know. I also have an article of that can be done to this lathe. This was sent to me by one of the people on this forum and I would be happy to pass it on if you want.

The pictures show a pin in the hole at the back of the tailstock -the one I assume (in the other thread) to be for locating the tailstock centrally.

Similarly I see a pin at the back of the orange one, and an adjusting screw in teh third picture.
