Nameplate Identification

The company plaque of the mobile steam locomotive Ruston, Proctor & Co., Lincoln, manufactured for the Russian market, approximately 1890–1917. The exact model and power are not established.

Maybe they can help me determine exactly what this label is from, since I haven’t found any precise information in my region.

The forums say it’s from a locomobile. But I couldn’t find a specific model or examples of where it’s used. And the fact that the plate is in Russian (Russian Empire) for an export model only made my search more difficult.

Yes, I got to this part, and it got interesting. But the region where the find was made is not an oil‑producing area (the central part of modern Russia), and the video mentions the city of Baku — this is the modern territory of Azerbaijan, where oil was produced, and it used to be part of the Empire.

I also managed to find an image from a custom book in Russian, intended for export; it features some of the models.

Most likely from what we call a “portable engine” which is what you can see in the image powering a threshing machine so these would have gone to areas where grain production was common such as Ukraine. They even made “straw burners” that could run from the burnt stalks which would otherwise have been waste.

Hi, thanks for the information. Yes, I read a bit about where they were used, and you’re right. I’m actually in a region where the focus was primarily on grain production. All that’s left is to identify the model exactly; I’ll try to look for catalogs in archives and local museums — maybe there’ll even be a photo
