Its a thing of beauty, at a guess, it is for milling or grinding flats on bolts. Whatever was machined was small enough to fit in the chuck.

I would love to buy it just to play with, but a little expensive for a toy.

As old mart said it's a lovely bit of kit but what is it for? It appears that every angle is adjustable and there is a feed similar to the compound slide on a lathe. Like old mart said whatever it's for would have to fit in the chuck. Could it be for sharpening drill bits or mill cutters?

Holder for a tool and cutter grinder. Possibly for use on a standard bench grinder or for making D-bit cutters. (I want one)

Looks like an attachment to convert a small surface grinder into a tool and cutter grinder. I vaguely remember using something similar as an apprentice almost 50 years ago so details are sketchy. The surface grinder table was locked in position and the attachment bolted to the table. Surface grinding wheel was replaced with a cup or dish wheel as required. Could be used to sharpen end mills, face mills etc and with a finger attachment to sharpen the spiral flutes on end mills and reamers etc. Don't ask me how to set it. up. The leading hand mostly did that and I just sat there all day long licking milling cutters etc back and forth, wishing I was somewhere else.

Holding a cutter by way of a drill chuck for regrinding isn't the best solution but who knows? Nice bit of kit though.

Yes the drill chuck is kind of odd. I expect it can be removed and replaced with collets or holder of some sort. Maybe this is a budget model with chuck instead of collets? Obvioulsy the device is not used for drilling as spindle is indexed etc.

I noticed the JIS logo on the chuck, so that part could be Japanese.

The odd amount .94 cents? suggests it was sold to someone overseas, It had been newly painted, the underside of the baseplate showed the original colour which was Hammerite.
