      .

      Nice. smiley

Looks like it's going to be a bit of a beast that one Jason. Are you going to need a bigger compressor.? wink

Nearly finished the new prop to replace the broken 130mph one just to polish it and a spare one is nearly finished.

Oh for a CNC milling machine.

        Paul

Excellent work by the look of it.

What sort or RPM (in the water) will that be doing Paul.?

It's not easy getting the curvature the same as the broken prop but will see at the end of September if I cannot give it a try next weekend.

As a rough guess when at peak speed on the water 11000rpm when airborne or free running 15000rpm plus.

Did some machining and my mate came round on this :-

              Lucky basket.

When at Technical collage it was my turn to go for lunches, my scooter stuck in the corner of the loading bay with a seniors Norton easier to get out. I had asked him to move his nicely as we shared the area and often rode home along the same highway. Next thing I heard was here catch!!! I heard the tinkling of keys said thanks as I caught them and started moving his brand new bike (4 weeks old) he yelled out no take it to get the lunches it'll be quicker!!! smile o I was dumb founded. There sat my little Honda 90 step through looking like a Corgi toy beside his Norton. He came helped me back it out onto the street loading bay was littered with steel and such. I had ridden a mates 750 Four so a bigger bike was no problem me being a weed.

3/4hr latter I returned with angel 2 look on my face.

Needless to say I sat quietly in class the rest of the day. LOL

Hi, well today I had a bit of a spontaneous spending spree in Aldi's. Just went in to see if there was anything worth getting and spotted an angle grinder stand for 115 and 125mm angle grinders, for £12.99. The box felt reasonable heavy, so I thought why not get one and see. Moved along a bit and saw packets of grinding/cutting and flap wheel discs for £3.99 each, but they were all 125mm ones and I don't have a grinder that size, but hey next to them was a 125mm angle grinder with an integral speed regulator for £19.99. Ended up buying the grinder the stand, one pack of four flap discs and one pack of eleven thin cutting discs for a total of £40.96.

                  cimg2081 (1024x768).jpg

Got the stand out of the box and the most part is made of die cast, but the base is cast iron. It was simple enough to assemble, although there were no real instructions for assembly.

                  cimg2082 (768x1024).jpg

Just one Issue so far is that the bottom adjusting screw the keeps the grinder vertical to the work, does not make a good contact on the grinder, although it says it is suitable for their own grinder (just maybe not for this model)

                  cimg2083 (1024x768).jpg

As can be seen in the above photo, the bottom screw has been skewed downward as there is no positive location for the plastic pad to bear onto. Might fit my 115mm grinders OK, will have to see, but maybe will have to make a bracket of some sort to fit this one.

This stand will probably be OK for what it is intended for, but I doubt it will stand up to viigorus or heavy work.

                  Regards Nick.

P.S. sorry about the second photo being on its side, but it just does not want to do anything else.

Hi Nicholas I bought the cut off bit some time ago to use on my grinder a Hitachi no way could it fit without mass work to be done. Latter bought the Aldi grinder as it has VS very useful that is, BUT here in AU we have found the need to make an arbour to match the disc size we can get annoying yep even though Aldi sell disc about the same time they also do not fit the arbour on the machine.

The last few weeks have been flat out like a Lizard drinking.
Setting up a machining job for an adaptor step down from 30×3.4 to 1"x10, rough turning 2 English Oak Motar & pestle on the wood lathe. Race over 1hr each way to see MiL who is in nursing home only to find due to a serious flu epidemic the place is in lock down NO visitors. Being we were heading away for a week to QLD to meet up with a cousin from Petersbourgh I had not seen in 55yrs didn't wan to pass on anything.

13hr drive from Sydney to Toowoomba QLD and first phone call came 250k away from home and didn't stop till we returned just prior arriving at nursing home a week latter regarding MiL's health and hospitalisation. Had top 4 days with cousin and his wife. Return journey via coast route saw me find out how slack some tradesman can be when the disabled shower seat newly fitted parted company from the wall with me on it. Yes there are photos No not posting the ones with me still on the seat and floor.
Idiot had used 4 light gauge screws into plugs into tiles and plaster board NOT 1/4" min stainless bolts into brick wall.
Final call from SiL please get home ASAP MiL not good, poor dear only lasted a further 5 days funeral is tomorrow Thursday EST. Still at 91 she did far better than she though she would being her 3 sisters and brother and hubby had passed away many yrs prior.

The 2 weks at home since arriving back have been a blur organising all sorts LOML and her sis, me doing up the DVD for funeral.
Time in the workshop resulted in a repair to a 2 draw tool box of quality well it was supposed to be. The spot welds have given way allowing the draw runners to part company as you opened the draw, riveted it back together 4 in in all. These draws store my wood turning chucks etc.

Maybe Friday or next week I can return to finishing off projects started. 4 weeks or is that 5 weeks ago smile

PS Finding my MEW mag had the plastic cover torn and rain soaked to the point of pages are stuck together after drying has me devil at our new postie.

It was really quite gentlemanly of the IEE to describe it as a merger. I'd describe it rather as a benign rescue takeover. The IEE had succeeded at recruiting University leavers and their distribution of membership numbers vs age was fairly flat. The corresponding graph for the IERE was a hump at the older end, inexorably moving to the right at a rate of 12 months per year – we were doomed, I tell you, doomed!!!

Quite nice to hear that the IEE did something vaguely useful!

I've been a member for 33 years and all they seemed to do, at least before becoming the IET, was erect either statues of, or plaques to the memory of, Michael Faraday!

                            Hi there, Jon,

Before I moved to sunny Hampshire, I did a stint on my local IEE Area committee. The committee members worked hard to arrange a programme of interesting lectures for the members. Nowadays I try to get to the monthly lectures arranged by the Solent Retired Members Section. That programme, too, is varied and interesting. Maybe you should have a look at the lecture programme in your area?

I agree with the above regarding the IEE, (now IET), you must take part, you can also visit other profession's branch meetings, for instance, I attended a meeting at Boscombe Down organised by the Local Branch of the RAeS.

Although I've attended one lecture over the years as I'm still working I always seem to have better things to do – like being in the workshop wink

The IET do pretty well out of me though – I keep paying my dues even though I really don't feel I get much in return. I'm also a Senior member of the IEEE although that is significantly better value IMHO.

Finishing up the "improvements" on our little caravan, after a trip to a local Ontarip Provincial Park – Algonquin Park.

Normans' comment to Raymond prompted this – Algonquin Park is about 1/3 the size of Wales. The last 40 or so km to the campground were over dirt roads, and the compartments over the wheel wells were covered with a fine grit. So, out comes the silicone caulking, and the job continues.

It's sunny here too – just north of Okehampton. Actually, it's pretty hot, as I have been cutting the grass, which seems to have grown a foot during my holidays.

Best crop I've ever had; not bad for two plants. Blueberry muffins here we come!

You did better than me Andrew, virtually nothing from the Blueberry, will have to make do with blackberry muffins but I did have the first of the plumbs with custard last nightsmile

                                                  Hi Ray,

Sorry to hear about your mother in law, at least she had a decent innings.

Which issue of MEW bit the dirt? Let me know and we'll send a replacement out.

                                                  Neil

Good grief Raymond – I think you need a holiday!

We've just had our No.2 son with us here in sunny Devon for 5 weeks – he lives in Melbourne. I just can't get my head around the distances between places you have out there. Hope things calm down a bit for you soon.

                                                    Regards

                                                    Norman

Its my LOML who needs it more than me Norman yet like these things the legal side is now to be settled the sooner thats done the better. Then maybe a holiday.

Its scary but the highways between capitals are not congested and if a clean run, no road works or accidents you can do Sydney to Brisbane in 11/12 hrs straight close enough to 1000k or Sydney Melb 900 10/11hrs. Sydney SA in 14/16hrs depending on the route. WA takes 3 days, NT/Dawrin a week.

Victoria small as it is you can drive round in a day.

Yet there is a property in QLD takes 3 days to drive from one side to the other.
