ARC doesn't put such stickers on small parcels because past experience says that if delivery person or anyone in process got out of wrong side of bed, the said parcel gets used like a football if marked 'Fragile'.

      .

That reminds me of my Christmas Post job … final year at school.

      Working in the Sorting Office.

One of the regular staff [not a student] grabs a large envelope bearing prominent labels:

"Photographs Do Not Bend" reads he, joyously folding the envelope in half … "Yes they ######-well do!"

Great idea and it looks good as well, but is that a file I see on the bench with no home to go to wink 2.

          Cheers

Hi there HughE. I've been retired for 5 years and if you are like me you will find there is that much stuff to do at home, you will wonder how you ever found time to go to work.

Martin W. The "homeless" file you see is the de-burring file which usually sits between the lathe and the mini mill/drill.

My postman is a forger. He must be as I am never asked to sign for recorded delivery, either letters through the box or even if he has to knock for me to open the door.

My postie struggles past soggy bushes and under snow laden branches to deliver me…….threatening letters from the BBC. I don't see why I should tell them over and over again I don't have a TV here. I often have to dry the letters out before I can use them to light the fire.

I believe someone has successfully sued the organisation that sends these letters, do it and see what you can get.

You need the letters as evidence because basically they are trying to claim money under false pretences.

Wandered into our local railway workshop, and there was the A4 , 60009. Very unusual. Turns out it broke down at Newton Abbot, and ended up here with badly knackered bearing (l/h of the 3 I think). Causing a lot of trouble by all accounts because its supposedly hasnt been long in for repair at Crewe. I was told it is supposed to be pulling the royal train in Scotland in a couple of weeks, so the owner is not happy. The offendscf1543.jpgding wheel set is on the right of picture. Big job !!..

Finally got round to taking some photos of two recent projects, first is a tapping tool for small delicate taps from some free plans found on the internet, just had to change the dimensions to metric.

Second project was to make some more tool holders for my QTP for AMA210VG lathe, I have enough material for about 12, this one is the first and my first time cutting a dovetail. The commercial one is on the left, my copy on the right – only 11 more to go crook

ArcEuro sell a similar tapping aid which I’ve found very useful as the base has T-slots so is easy to fit a small holding jig for repetive small tapping jobs – I added a small collar + fixing screw between the handle and the top bar – makes replacing taps very easy without the chuck crashing down on the work – also provides a simple depth stop for blind taps – pity only works upto 5mm metric (6mm on some softer material) tho I did have to loctite the chuck to the rod (breakable seal tho)

Just got back from my Dad's. I've got a few boat RC pics to share tomorrow including his HMS Matabele (about 50 years old and showing her age!)and my own Miss Britain III on maiden voyyage which was an absolute treat. The multi-step hull paned beautifully, very stable and it looked really realistic at a decent speed with a 'scale' wash.

In the meantime a bit of family history – I now have a family tree back to 1570!

The lad second from the left is my paternal grandfather, and the lady and gentlemen at right are two of my great-grandparents. As you can see several of them were in the Sally Army band!

This is where my Grandad was when Dad was born (confirmed by birth certificate):

                              sub.jpeg

Now a couple of pics of my dad float testing the hull of his Warspite, these would be about 14 years ago:

                              dad warspite 2.jpg

His comment is 'that was when I discovered you can't use acrylic over oil-based paints' – at leats not the mix he chose!

What angle dovetail cutter did you use?

The dovetail cutter is 60 degrees, the small one from arc, used 30mm square as could not get 1x 1.25

                                      Few more pics from yesterday.

Dad's very venerable (nearly fifty year old) HMS Matabele in 1:48:

A neat little steam launch that gave the owner a bit of bother 'its been running fine on the bench!' but finally ran nicely:

                                      A nice little freighter:

                                      dscn4277.jpg

Postcript -you can see my grampy was an Associate Member of the British Institute of Radio Engineers – I found his certificate form 1946, in the mid-fifties. I discovered that he also became an associate member of one of the engineering societies, but I have already forgotten which one!

I wish that van was still in the family, I remember the 'horns' very well – they used to be hired out every time there was and election in Barry or a fete in Romilly Park.

It was really quite gentlemanly of the IEE to describe it as a merger. I'd describe it rather as a benign rescue takeover. The IEE had succeeded at recruiting University leavers and their distribution of membership numbers vs age was fairly flat. The corresponding graph for the IERE was a hump at the older end, inexorably moving to the right at a rate of 12 months per year – we were doomed, I tell you, doomed!!!

                                                  Best regards,

Nearly finished the new prop to replace the broken 130mph one just to polish it and a spare one is nearly finished.

As I'm always trying to find more Horsepower might try the following at least the stuff out of the backend will be good for the garden.

Was hoping to have a blast with the steamer next weekend but a minor health problem might curtail it as have been told to keep out of the workshop and rest my legs indecision.

Over the weekend I have completed the base for my 2/3rd scale Tidman engine and also got the bearing keeps and oil pots done.
