• HI I have a Warco YMC turret mill and want to fit A dro has anybody done this and got pictures please the Y Axis is particularly trying on one side we have the handle for the knee and on the other end is the cross stop bar any ideas please.

Note the snagged cable from the y axis where it gets caught on the oil pipe.

I assume you are referring to the Warco VMC mill? If so, then , yes, I've fitted three-axis DRO scales to mine. The saga is documented in my album "Warco VMC Mill". My answer to your original question, though, is shown below:

The installation retains the original Y-axis travel stop arrangement, albeit mounted lower than standard. The motor control box also has to be mounted lower. Neither, I have found, is an inconvenience in day-to-day working. I have a couple of drawings of some of the mountings. If you would like a copy, PM me with your email address.

Hi Alan

Yes – I've fitted a DRO (from Allendale) to the Y-axis of my VMC and retained a stop system at the same time. Unlike John, I chose to make a new stop bar and stops rather than use the existing one, probably because it matched the one that I fitted to the X-axis.

I've loaded a few photos into an album **LINK** which will hopefully give you some ideas. In loading the album, I noticed that I had already posted some DRO photos which you might also find helpful.

If you decide to adopt a similar approach then I have some drawings in TurboCAD format that I can send you, although if you can't read these then I can probably convert to a PDF for you – please PM me if you need these.

While you are fitting the DRO I would recommend fitting the X-axis scale to the front of the table rather than to the rear so that you can retain full Y-axis travel – I wrote an article for MEW196 showing how I did this and included stops. If you decide to do this you will need to buy a scale smaller than the standard one so as to allow the stops to be included – the article explains.

The stop bar is a bit pointless unless you have a Y axis power feed, in which case you will have to retain it.

I fitted the X axis at the rear so that I could fit the limit switch for the X axis power feed on the front.

No, I do not have any drawings, the Aluminium mountings were bent and drilled to suit.

The (Allendale) system I fitted to the mill shown in my previous post reference had the full length X-axis scale on the front, and still retained full length stops.

Thanks for all your replies I certainly have lots of options now, Its not the easy job the sell lead me to believe and on challenging him he admitted he had never fitted one to this mill after telling me how easy it was!!!

Well finaly got up corage to have a go and it went quite easy but didnt refit the stop bar fits a lot better than it looked but some quite injeiouse brackets needed. Thanks to every one who replied.
