      Thought it might have been an in situ operation Paul, even more reason for using a simple block cutter in one hand and a straight edge guide in the other. Can't help thinking your excellent machine would get a bit muscle wearing in a short time.

        I must admire all the electric tools for this job, but for one -offs and w/shop construction etc. I just use an old serrated blade breadknife. Makes a bit of a mess but no fumes.

          If you are getting serious amounts of fumes, the wire is too hot, you should only get a slight smell of hot plastic.

            Dear All,

            I have noticed a typo in my report with the pictures, The wire thickness is 6mm square not 60, as this is a stupid dimension I am sure every body realized my error, sorry!

            Many thanks for the handy feedback, I am sure that anybody else that wants to cut Polystyrene will find all the advice and suggestions in this post very helpful.
