Recently whilst using eBay a very annoying advertising banner for an American site called Peep Price keeps appearing along the bottom of the screen. I have tried to disable it without any luck. Does anyone else have this problem? If you have and managed to get rid of it I would like to know how you did it.

Its happening in a lot of Forums now, sometimes its accompanied by sound (Drivel) It happens as you scroll over a word or symbol in the page you are looking at. Sometimes the word is emphasized in colour !

I dont know how to stop it apart from ignoring it.

            Hi There

I keep getting this with a program called text enhance. You don't know what is a genuine link or not.

I used to run a free program, I think it was called Adaware, that stopped all this rubbish but now it is integrated with an anti virus I can't use it as I use Norton.

Does anyone know of another free program to remove all these spam programs?

            regards David

I never get ANY of this stuff you guys suffer from

                WinXP

                Firefox

                Zonealarm pro

                ALL updating disabled, for EVERYTHING

All windows stuff disabled, antivirus firewall etc no exceptions

NO upgrades EVER allowed, (firefox adobe etc)

(and stay away from those porno sites face 6 )

I tried Norton or Mcafee around 1997, never again

That program was like a processor hogging virus which completely took over windows

In firefox tools/addons I only allow one single program to run, flash

                  Martin,

Many , many, thanks this link provided the answer to my problem.

Like Ady1 I thought I was immune until this confounded thing appeared. So I now know it can happen to anyone whatever system you run as the perpetrators are always ahead of the field.

                  Thanks again to Martin

Glad it worked for you smiley

                    David.

Here's link for you that may help.

Isn't Norton a kind of virus in itself? I tried it (some while ago) and couldn't use my computer 'cos it was too busy 'protecting' itself.

As I remarked in another post somewhere on this site, I use Microsoft Security Essentials and I think it does all an average Windows user would need – in my opinion.

                    Martin.

Many developers are trying to get rid of Flash as it is the basis for many annoying ads. If you disable it some content doesn't show. Have a look here.

By the way I allow updates to much of my software and never have a problem. I prefer to update than to have a hacker or hijacker exploit a hole in some application or other on my PC. Many times those who cosily think they are protected can have code running they know nothing about, everything seems fine, until they find that keystroke logging is installed deep in the system. You only find that out when your bank account is cleared or unknown purchases are made in your name.

                      Regards

                      Terry

The only other program I ever use is startup manager, which lets you edit the startup registry

So you can see straight away whether something has sneaked through and delete it

I haven't used it for a long time though and my own one is a lot simpler than the current version

                          Hi

I actually have a similar problem when on this forum. Words in posts are shown highlighted in blue as though they are links put in by the person making the post. When you hover your cursor over or click it an add appears. I have supposedly won god knows how many iphones and other stuff.

So frustratingly annoying, I thought Norton was supposed to get rid of this kind of stuff. This thread alone has several false links.

                            Hi Nigel,

Text Enhance is a well known advertising device which causes keywords to be highlighted and links to sponsored advertisers who can subscribe to the so called 'service'. Text Enhance is basically an add on or extension to your web browser and it can easily be removed. See the link in my post above in reply to David Clark

                            Best regards

I use "do not track plus" I don't know if that puts off these guys as allegedly with DNTP they don't get any useful info about you, or your presence.

After watching the DNTP counter for a while most sites seem to pass your info on to at least two others but one site I visit allegedly passes my whereabouts on to 15 others!

And all to try and sell me something I'm not going to buy anyway. What a waste of effort.

                                    David,

Spybot is a free and effecitive adware bl;ocker that does the same sort of things as Adaware.

It has two components, a TSR that watches out for changes like an antivirus and a cleanup utility that can allow you to disable natsy startup programmes that the earlier built-in windows startup managers can miss.

There's a simple, effective and free solution to all the cr*p if you use Firefox as browser.

                                      Download the add-on "Noscript".

                                      It's also via http://noscript.net/

If some functionality on the website is not working then you decide whether to allow it or not.
