Proposed new ISO Standards for 2020 are now out for consultation:

ISO 935-4527 – Procedures for the efficient loading of dishwashers.

ISO 953-4574c – Approved ordering of cutlery in horizontal storage units.

ISO 100-R011 – Orientation of lavatory paper in wall-mounted holders.

ISO 100-5E47 – Protocols for the placement of toilet seats and their covers after use.

There's also an EU directive expected on the replacement of lids on beverage storage vessels.

I worked in the plastics industry making various tooling for many molders and two came up as dangerous one was a bleach manufacture and with a new style of screw top, the polymer was changed from the original and it was later found that the lid became brittle with time, and split, not good for keeping the bottle sealed. The other was a blow moulding for a carbonised drink and the pressure exceeded the strength of the neck piece if the bottle was shaken or dropped, the end of the bottle snapped as the top was unscrewed and a young person actually lost the sight in one eye. I made a container for containing amputated limbs in operating theaters for disposal but that is another story. Just to say that not all standards are rubbish but some of them are a total wast of time.

I generally place these above the toilet. I did try putting one 5 feet to the left of the toilet but this led to a pretty awful smell and it had to be moved to the correct position.

ISO 100-R011 – at last, something to make people do it the correct way. Which is, of course, paper feeding downwards from the wall side.

I disagree, always paper away from wall. It is easier to grasp it that way.

Hi David, they need to be a precision fit, i.e. they need to go onto the top of the bowl rim with the hinged part at the back. The accuracy of the x & y about the central position can be plus or minus a tad each way. Fitting it in this way, I find them to be extremely efficient and avoids much of the smell and stops you getting a bogy surface below when in use. It does help though, for the rim to be in a reasonable horizontal plain. wink 2 Hope this helps.

                              Regards Nick.

Actually there probably are standards for handwashing somewhere. I've seen the instructions posted above surgeons' hand wash sinks outside operating theatres in hospitals I worked at. Specified number and direction of rubs with liquid soap etc and rinse duration and then elbows only used to close faucet.

Absolutely. It also mitigates risk of transfer of bacteria present on the wall.

It guarantees Your knee fouling it. Also puts the loo about 8" from the same wall.
