Interesting article incorporating some fancy footwork, but the OP’s first sentence says he has a metric Myford.  I have seen it written here many’s the time that there ain’t no such animal, all S7’s are imperial by dint of having an 8 TPI leadscrew.

I suppose it’s possible that the OP has something which has been “aftermarketed” but the question remains.

On what evidence is this identified as a metric machine?  If it is such, how did it happen and is it an interesting oddity or evidence that Myford did have an export department?

      Regards Simon

Myford sold the S7 in a metric version (which I bought), the X-slide LS is truly metric but the Z axis is 8 tpi.  However the OEM Z-axis handwheel is graduated as 0 – 3.15 mm with an extra slightly wider gap at the end.  So you can use the machine as true metric as long as the Z axis cut is limited to less than that, if it’s more you need to do some fancy footwork!

I don’t recall the date, but I have a vivid recollection of one visit to to Beeston when the clever contraption for graduating tailstock barrels in either Imperial or Metric was on display … so they were obviously making some metrication effort.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>hello, the markings on the handwheels are metric. i checked this with a modified caliper attached to the slide. apparently there are articles written about this question. leadscrew is therefore always imperial.</p>
