Hi,
I’m coming back to model making after a long time (40yrs) and have bought a semi finished 3.5″ Firefly by Martin Evans. I need to finish the boilder which is about 50% done. One query I had was on the staying of the flat areas. The drawings show 4BA threaded copper stays run over with either soft or hard solder. Is this still acceptable? I’m based in Ireland where we don’t really have boiler inspectors with experience in model locomotives. A hydraulic test (200% MWP) and steam test (110% MWP) are the local club requirements. I plan to silver solder the rest of the boiler. Is soft solder threaded stays (nutted?) OK?
Thanks
Donall
