I have two morse taper sleeves that do 2 to 1. One of them fits in my tailstock and can be ejected. The other fits but is not long enough a tang to be removed by the winding in of the tailstock spindle.

I would like to remedy the problem presumably by lenghtening the tang. I have had a suggestion to put a screww in the end which sounds good until I tried to consider holding the taper accurately the other way round !.

Screw in tangs are available from Arc eurotrade if thye will fit your socket.

It does not have to be that accurate, just stand the sleeve tang up on the drill table, take a firm grip and drill say 4.2mm for a M5 thread. Then tap and put in a socket cap screw, you don't need anything larger. If you really want to hold it accurately then turn a rough male MT taper on a bit of scrap held in the lateh chuck and push the sleeve onto that.

Just make sure the tang is not hardened, if it is weld a bit of flat bar on and grind 'till it looks nice.

The screw in tangs only work with large threads in the end of the sleeve.

Not quite your problem maybe but my rotating centre was too short to be ejected by my S7 tailstock.

The small bolt loctited into the end works just fine.

Drilled two holes in the end of the tang, and drove in 2 bits of round MS rod, with a bit of threadlock for good measure. Then file to size. Dia of hole and rod to suit what's "in the box".
