Are you sure it is the nut. My super 7 had quite a bit of play which i wrongly assumed was wear in the nut. Once i had re-bushed the handwheel carriage support, the play went away.

New nut? Why not repair the one you have? Easily done, although a bit tight if single pointing the thread.

My Super 7 has a 1/2" x 10tpi RH Acme thread on the cross slide. I believe the ML7 may be 3/8" X 10tpi. Tracy Tools sell 3/8", 7/16" and 1/2" taps of that form and pitch.

Well it seems steve was on the money the bushing is well worn ,and putting in the screw in to the nut there seems not to be any lash on that ,but did find the nut was loose as well ,so that was not helping matters,so will re bush the housing and go from there ,well l am at it will re bush the carrage handle.

arceurotrade (advert near top right on this page) do a modification kit for the ML7 cross slide handle which makes  operating it much better.

There is some machining required to fit the parts so I’ve linked to the details here:-

The arc conversion looks nice but it says that it won't work on a Super 7 lathe. Does anybody know of a Super 7 equivalent modification?
