Does anyone know of a supplier of M.E. thread steel setscrews, specifically ⅛" x 40? I need a couple of different lengths in fairly small quantities. Any suggestions gratefully received.

I think 1/8" x 40 ME is the same as 1/8" BSW so try looking for those instead?

I understand that ME threads are based on the BSW thread form so 1/8 x 40 and 5/32 x 32 are the same in both types (for the critical their could be a slight difference in the "Crest and Root&quot

                Curious – Why do you need 1/8 – 40 ME screws ??

Unless you are comitted to using existing tapped holes then use 5BA instead . Commonly available and nicer heads .

The 26 32 40 and 60 tpi constant pitch series threads are all Whitworth standard form .

They were ‘ proper ‘ engineering thread series but apart from 26 they were not much used except for Model Engineering work .

Lovely boxed ME tap and die sets used to be available from several suppliers including Bond’s and Tyzack .

In my early days buying catalogues was about the limit of my purchasing power and I used to look endlessly at the boxed sets and other wonderful things in the pictures .

Hi folks 26 tpi are used extensively on brass and also on cycles as I understand

Reply to Michael, they are needed to fit existing tapped holes in cylinder head and crankcase of a model aero engine, and there's not enough meat to rethread with an alternative.

May just be easier to buy a bit of hex bar and a die and make your own, can't be that many in a small aero engine.

I wonder if you could get away with using 5-40 UNC which are 0.125" – 40tpi and at that size I doubt the 5 degree difference in thread angle will make a difference, even if it did you should be OK to tap with a UNC tap. Model fixings do 5-40 cap heads. If its an american engine than thats likely to be what was used anyway.
